More coffee

I have to admit with the amount of lesson planning/stressing that I’ve been “doing” (and definitely not just procrastinating) the past few days, I’ve been neglecting my blog a tad…

I’m essentially teaching every single lesson this week which is going to be great practice but oh my god am I scared! And I can’t even go out for the daily coffee with the secondary teachers as the breaks are different in primary school – not really much point in going on without my mid-morning coffee and tortilla if I’m honest 🙎. I’ve just taught 9-10 year olds a lesson about describing people and they seemed to really enjoy it! The teacher said I did a good job so I’ll take it. The only issue now is I’ve got a different class in the same year so I have to deliver the same standard and to be honest the adrenaline is wearing off haha! I’m sure it’ll be alright though, especially now I know what I’m doing.

The only 2 classes that worry me are the 1° and 2° of the primary school, as every time I try and prepare something, the teacher just hands me flashcards and asks me to do something with them. There are very few games you can play with flashcards though, and I recognise that the children do get bored fairly quickly. I’ve decided that I’ll put my foot down today and say I’ll do the lesson that I’ve planned. The good thing is, Spanish is not computing in my brain today, so even if I wanted to use Spanish to communicate with the younger ones (which makes things a lot easier), my mouth wouldn’t be able to articulate practically anything useful. I think because I got so caught up in thinking about the lessons that that’s all my brain can focus on at the moment 😭.  I think I know the years which I’m more comfortable teaching now, which will be good to know when I apply for teaching jobs in the future. I will however power through this week slowly but surely!

I had a very good weekend thankfully, although now we’re officially halfway through the month which makes me want to cry. We went on a tour of León yesterday and had a look inside the cathedral and the Basilica of San Isodoro, which we learned, has a lights show every Saturday, telling the story of León from Roman times to now; we all agreed that it’s going to be our first stop on the way to the bars next weekend 😉. I must say, León is a really pretty city (if you ignore some of the concrete blocks), and I really enjoy just walking through it and admiring the sights.

Please enjoy some photos from the tour!
