The last few days...
Well it’s been an interesting few days. I feel so lucky that all the teachers here are so kind, and have really made sure I’m alright teaching the difficult class. I’ve done several classes with that year now and it is so much better. Just having someone else in the room who knows the children is so comforting and I’m able to enjoy the experience a lot more. I know, however, that I won’t always have another teacher with me for difficult classes but just for the first few times it’s been great. I think it has also given me the time to build rapport without having to give my full attention to classroom management. I think I’ll actually be sad to leave them!
I can’t
believe I’m going so soon, I really love it here. The atmosphere in the school is
so warm and all the teachers I’ve spoken to really can’t do enough to help me.
It’s frustrating because as soon as I start to get comfortable and form bonds
with the classes I have to go! I would jump at the opportunity to come back and
help, and so I’ve told all my teachers to keep an eye out for any jobs for me. I
said goodbye to all of them today which was so hard! Although I forgot to hand
some books in so I had to go back 2 hours later which was a bit awkward hahaha.
I had a
lesson with 3° ESO (14-15 year olds) yesterday and they’re very….
Interesting. There were only about 7 of them as most of them have gone a school
trip, so it was difficult to get anything done. I enjoyed it nonetheless, as I
got to talk about Love Island and different English slang words like “cracking
on”. I think a couple of them were interested, but they’re at that age where
liking things is dumb (we’ve all been there I suppose). Sometimes you have to
pick your battles and accept that some people just aren’t going to listen – you
could be explaining how to end world hunger and they would still be more
excited about a bit of paint peeling off the wall. But then you have the
students who would listen to you talk about what you had for breakfast so
intently they could do an exam on it! It’s definitely tricky to appeal to cater
to both sides of the class, and even harder to remember that just because one
class was excited, does not mean in any way that the other class will be too….
We’re going
out tonight for a few drinks which will be the last time we go out in León ☹. I’m
really sad to leave obviously, especially as it’s so warm here at the moment! It’ll
be nice to see my family again and have a proper rest though, it’s been so full
on every day. We’ve all been so busy all the time so it’s made the month go insanely
fast, but I’ve enjoyed every second of it. This may be the last blog I do unless
something super exciting happens tomorrow... yeah doubt it!
¡Hasta pronto mis amigos!
