The First Day
¡Hola todos!
So here I am starting a blog. Feels a bit weird really cause if I'm typing this much I'm usually ranting on the family group chat! Well where to start... we arrived in León at about 4pm yesterday after leaving Kent at 2am 🥴 it wasn't too bad really I just very much enjoy my sleep! We had a look round the city and settled in a little cafe by the cathedral, which by the way is amazing. Despite my attempt to ask for a "croissant chocolate" I did just get a drink very similar to thick chocolate sauce 😭
I'm now back from my day at the school and a bit in shock! All the teachers are speaking to me in Spanish which, although I can speak fairly well, is a bit daunting when it gets too fast. I really like it though, it's really fun to have that exchange and practise a skill that I love!
The children in the class I observed are very sweet and try really hard. I also got a thumbs up from one after showing my Manchester United notebook, so I'm very happy 👍 As I watched, my little brain was whirring, thinking about all the activities I could do, and how I would engage them and communicate with them just in English. I am a bit worried though, as the teacher explained to me how advanced and strange their textbook is, using words like "pulleys" and "revolutionised" to teach a class of 9 year olds about words to do with science!! I asked the teacher whether there were any topics she wanted me to cover and she basically gave me free reign- not sure if that's a good or a bad thing really but I'll try my best to make it interesting whatever happens.
The last lesson wasn't so good as the teacher expected me to know activities I could use for learning vocab sets, and unfortunately I just didn't, and so stood there like a lemon saying the odd word for pronunciation 🍋. I think I may need one more day for observation and to get to know some teachers before I start standing up and properly doing it but I'm excited to get involved!
¡Hasta pronto mis amigos!
